SLAM was honoured to be part of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union's (ABU) 31st Intellectual Property & Legal Committee Forum in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
The session, themed "Intellectual Property and The Next Chapter of Sports Broadcasting," delved into the dynamic relationship between intellectual property, sports, and media within the current regulatory landscape.
SLAM President Balbeer Singh Jessy gave the keynote address, highlighting the profound impact of digital evolution and the omnipresence of social media across various facets of our lives, including sports and media communication.
The digital revolution has also ushered in a new era for sports media broadcasting, necessitating engagement with a diverse and demanding audience through multiple channels while combating challenges like content piracy and unauthorized sharing.
While the role of AI in sports media broadcasting is commendable, the misuse, unethical and wrongful use of AI may lead to legal issues in law. Misinformation and Disinformation have posed a serious threat to individual privacy and personal data protection.
In the session on "Sports and Intellectual Property: Impact on Media Organizations," esteemed panelists, including Miss Lesley Lim from SLAM, explored the implications of intellectual property on media entities.
SLAM and ABU also signed an MoU for closer ties and collaboration at the Forum.
